[PostFinance] What is ECI?

The ECI (Electronic Commerce Indicator) indicates the security level at which the payment information is processed between the cardholder and merchant.
The ECI value must be submitted in the authorization request and the data capture request to ensure liability protection for the merchant.
The ECI value can be set by default, but it is also possible to send an ECI value with your transactions.
The submission of an ECI value is not necessary when the transactions are routed through our e-commerce platform, since in that case the payment information is not processed between the cardholder and the merchant, but between the cardholder and us.
You can configure a default ECI value in the Technical Information page. When you send an ECI value along in the transaction, this will overwrite the default ECI value.
For more information on ECI, please refer to the online Parameter Cookbook (“Support” → “Documentation” link in your back office).
